
Hon Ron Mark is New Zealand Minister of Defence and Minister of Veterans Affairs, having been elected to Parliament in 1996 as a New Zealand First List MP. He was Mayor of Carterton from 2010 to 2014. He graduated from New Zealand Army’s Regular Force Cadet School in 1971 as a soldier mechanic, and in 1978 he was accepted for Officer Cadet Training. In 1982, he was deployed to help set up the Multinational Force and Observers peacekeeping operation in the Sinai. From 1985 to 1990 he served in the Sultan of Oman’s Defence Forces, completing his service as a Major.
