FIRST Security announces appointment of Nick Gibbs as Chief Operating Officer. Outgoing COO Steven Sullivan to stay on until December.
Gibbs steps into the COO role following seven years with FIRST Security, where he has held several senior leadership roles and earned a reputation for shaping services and strengthening sector partnerships.
He brings over 25 years’ experience working in the security industry, having started his career as a frontline officer while completing his Bachelor of Applied Science, before contracting with Chubb Protective Services and going on to own and manage Masterguard Fire & Security Ltd for 12 years.
“Nick’s appointment to the role reflects his outstanding track record of operational excellence and strategic leadership,” said FIRST Security CEO Sara Norrie.
“Throughout his tenure with FIRST Security, he has been a vocal advocate for raising professional standards in the industry and has been responsible for ensuring outstanding service delivery for our clients across the country.”
“Gibbs additionally contributes to the advancement of the security profession at a national level, serving as a board member of the New Zealand Security Association (NZSA).”

Gibbs will be replacing outgoing COO Steven Sullivan who is returning to Melbourne after six years with the business, during which he demonstrated outstanding operational leadership.
“Steven will remain with FIRST Security until the end of December to ensure a smooth transition,” said Norrie. “He leaves the business in a strong position, and we are grateful for the contribution he has made to the company during his time with us.
Gibbs additionally contributes to the advancement of the security profession at a national level, serving as a board member of the New Zealand Security Association (NZSA).
