Security industry peak body New Zealand Security Association announces that nominations for 2024 New Zealand Security Awards open on 24th June.
This year’s call for nominations comes earlier than previous years as the NZSA seeks to maximise the quality and quantity of nominations received.
“We’ve allowed an extra month to receive nominations this year, so start thinking about which colleagues or staff members in your team or organisation deserve recognition for their outstanding contributions over the past 15 months,” the association posted on LinkedIn.
The award’s 19 categories are identical to last year’s apart from the previous “Outstanding Skills for Industry employee of the year” category replaced by the new “Outstanding MSD placement candidate of the year”. The categories are:
- Customer champion of the year
- Design and support electronic sector professional of the year
- Electronic trainee of the year
- Guarding sector trainee of the year
- Install and service electronic sector (corporate) technician of the year
- Install and service electronic sector (SME) technician of the year
- Michael Pepper Award for outstanding security training initiative
- Monitoring/communication centre operator of the year
- Outstanding new product or service of the year
- Outstanding MSD placement candidate of the year
- Patrol officer of the year
- Security administrator of the year
- Security consultant of the year
- Security integrator of the year
- Security officer of the year
- Security supervisor/operations manager of the year
- Security trainer or workplace assessor of the year
- Specialised security services professional of the year
- Outstanding staff retention/culture development programme
The 20th category – Security Professional of the year – is the program’s supreme award given to the highest assessed winner from across the 19 category winners.

The awards will climax with a gala dinner celebration at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Auckland, on Friday 20 September, where the award winners will be announced.
