Tegan Wedderburn has been announced as the winner of the Women in Security Awards Aotearoa (WiSAA) 2023-24 ‘Safeguarding networks and people online’ category, one of two category winners from Netsafe.
Service Manager at Netsafe, Tegan Wedderburn, joins the winners of seven other categories across defence, law enforcement, government, and the private and community sectors, as a 2023-24 WiSAA recipient.
Ms Wedderburn, one of two award winners from Netsafe, took out the ‘Safeguarding networks and people online’ category.
This category recognises a professional who has through their commitment, capability, professionalism, advocacy, innovation, and/or leadership made an exceptional contribution to driving cybersecurity or online safety outcomes within an organisation or beyond.
Ms Wedderburn’s Winner citation reads:
Tegan Wedderburn is recognised for her role as a Service Manager at Netsafe Incorporated where she is responsible for leading a team of Digital Harms Resolution Officers tasked with providing quick and efficient redress for people impacted online harm.
Ms Wedderburn’s dedication and commitment was recognised in September 2023, when her team was recognised for providing outstanding customer service at the annual New Zealand Contact Centre Awards 2023. She has demonstrated a focus on continuous improvement and delivering exceptional service through expertise, dedication, and a structured, considered approach.
Passionate about supporting others who have experienced online harm, Ms Wedderburn places the client at the centre of all decisions and achieves optimal outcomes via an ability to build rapport with anyone, no matter their circumstances. She is committed to nurturing and growing talent, and in particular, supporting young women to reach their potential.
The Women in Security Awards Aotearoa (WiSAA) initiative was established in 2020 to promote the role of women in sectors where they are still significantly under-represented, and to recognise women who are advancing Aotearoa New Zealand’s security, risk and resilience sectors.
Nominees must be women, or identify as women, with more than three years of experience in any occupation within the defence, law enforcement, physical security, personnel security, information security, national security, cybersecurity, investigations, intelligence, risk management, emergency management or resilience domains, and be actively practising either in Aotearoa New Zealand or overseas in the interests of New Zealand’s security.
Nominations for the 2023-24 awards were received from across the government, military, law enforcement, private, and community sectors.
Winners were announced via the Defsec New Zealand website on 05 June. It is anticipated that a call for nominations for the 2024-25 awards will be made in late 2024 with winners to be announced in time to be celebrated on International Women’s Day (08 March) 2025.
